Day 25 - Christmas Day!

The wait is finally over! You needn't really have looked on the site on this day, really. You should be enjoying yourself! But, you are here now, so there is no point in wasting your time. First thing's first. The Next Doctor, the 2008 Christmas Special, will be shown today on BBC One at the time of 6:00pm, and here is the main part of this. Below, you can see the ten most important things you need to do in order to prepare for your viewing of the episode. Take a look, and I advise you to follow the pointers!

Remember to get the family sat down 10 minutes before it starts.
Turn most of the lights off in the room you will be watching to a) not distract you and b) so you can see the telly clearer.
Don't add your own sound effects; i.e. crisps (very annoying) and phones etc.
Get any drinks together before!
Wear your most comfortable clothes (provided that they aren't in the wash).
Make reserved seating arrangements, so you know exactly where everyone will sit.
Turn the sound up really loud.
Deal with talkers afterwards, or if there is someone very likely to talk, get rid of them first thing.
The same above applies to snorers.
And most of all, enjoy it!!!

A Merry Christmas to you all!

Is it really that time of year again? Hasn't the time flown? Well, I suppose my time is very different from yours. I could come back at any time to see the festive day again. You know, I am actually very fond of your Christmas. Though, I haven’t always had a peaceful one.

From what I know, no aliens should be trying to invade this year (thankfully), but keep your wits about you, because you never know what might happen! I will, unfortunately, not be able to spend Christmas on Earth this year. In fact, I have barely had any time to write this really! Booking a trip into the darkest reaches of the Tryphoid Cluster wasn’t really a very good idea, as it takes about a year in my time to do the whole tour, plus having an escaped Slitheen to deal with very recently. I lead a very busy life actually, come to think of it, even though you would have thought I have all the time in the world.

But what will you be doing at this festive part of the year? I bet you can’t resist the temptation to open at least one of your presents from Santa before 6 o’clock in the morning! No? Okay then, I’ll challenge you! And if you are really good, you may find something extra special in your stocking from me, as well! And will you be singing carols? I love to have a good ol’ singsong. How about Christmas lunch? Mmmm… Oh, you may also be seeing me on your television at around six in the evening, if I am correct. I don’t know why people keep filming my adventures, it starts to get a little worrying, but still. Hang on; is this one with the Cybermen? Ah, yes, you will find it really quite fun. I won’t say any more about it but you will enjoy it! Trust me. It had me in an extremely tight situation. And I do hope that it snows for you on Christmas Day, because that is just the icing on the cake. If it doesn’t, I will travel back in time and make it!

So, not much more for me to say, apart from enjoy your turkey and your sprouts, have fun ripping open your presents, and just enjoy the day!

This is the last preview of the Monster and Villain Files, so here it is. I need to ask one thing though. Would you rather have the page up sooner, but not with every file written and then I will add them on when I have written them, or open it when every file is complete? I really need to know, so please comment on your opinion!

Episodes: The Christmas Invasion, The Runaway Bride

The Pilot Fish are a group of robot scavengers, who normally served different aliens rather than making their own plans. Strangely, the only times we have seen them on Earth have been very close to Christmas, and because of this, dressed as Santa Claus a lot of the time, when out in public. In Christmas 2006, the robots served the Sycorax, who were determined to enslave the human race. They came down to Earth, and played Christmas carols, with brass instruments, which were, in reality, lethal weapons. Rose, who was out shopping at the time with her boyfriend, Mickey, was suspicious of them, and when they pointed their instruments horizontally and started firing them as guns and flame throwers, she was right to be wary. They both ran away, knowing that they were wanting the Doctor, after undergoing his regeneration cycle. Having this regeneration meant he breathed out yellow matter out of his mouth once in a while, drawing the alien Sycorax to Earth. They both rushed in to her own flat (with her Mum, Jackie), and saw a Christmas tree which was different to the one they had seen before. Jackie thought it was from Rose, but then it started to spin and cut down anything that lay in its way. Eventually, Rose woke the Doctor up who was lying in bed, and the Doctor destroyed the tree. They all went outside and saw the Pilot Fish with a remote control, presumably to command the tree. He pointed his Sonic Screwdriver at them and they teleported off. Another event occurred a year later, at Donna Noble's wedding reception (which had gone completely wrong). The Doctor sensed danger and headed to the windows, to see the building surrounded by Pilot Fish, still looking like Santas, but slightly different to the previous ones. They used another remote to control killer baubles on the two Christmas trees in the building, while everyone was having a party. Most people thought it was great, until they started dropping like bombs. They formed a line at the back of the room, but the Doctor used his screwdriver to create such a loud noise, using the Hi-Fi system, until the vibrations caused them to break down. Just like last year, they used brass instruments again, but this time in the day. They were serving the Empress of the Racnoss, and one of them drove Donna away in a taxi. Donna, suspicious after it had turned in the wrong direction, pulled off the Santa mask and hood it was wearing, and underneath was a robotic-style golden mask. While in the Empress' lair, they had taken off their costumes, and wore black cloaks, armed with guns. The Doctor was able to turn off the Pilot Fish, with a remote he had taken off them. Who knows when they might pop up again...

Day 14 - Wrapping Paper and Supplies

Now, if you really want your Christmas to be Doctor Who-themed, you need these essentials. These include wrapping paper, gift tags, Christmas cards and so on. Then it will really feel special!

The first thing to get is gift wrap and gift tags, and you can buy a set of one of those here, for £2.50 each! There is an alternative version, with different pictures, but comes out cheaper at £2.25, and you can buy that here!
Although you could say this is just for a party, there are lots of plates, napkins and decorations all in one set, which should make your Christmas even more fun. And you can choose whether it's for 8 people or 16. For 8, it costs £15, and you can view it here.
You wouldn't be able to have Christmas without a card, so here is a Dalek one, and it also talks when you open it! It costs only £4.99 and you can buy it here!
And if you cut up some Doctor Who pictures, you can also make decorations!

Day 13 - Graske File

Here's another sneak peek at the Monster and Villain Files, and today's is all about the Graske. The Graske appeared in the Christmas-themed game, called Attack of the Graske, which was put online back in 2005. It was interactive with the Doctor, and you had to solve problems and find out things to get to Griffoth and win. You can actually still play it, and you can here! The pesky Graske then briefly appeared in Music of the Spheres, at the Doctor Who Prom this year. Read the file below;

Episodes: Attack of the Graske, Music of the Spheres

The Graske was a small creature, with three tentacle-like protrusions on their head. They had quite pale brown, pebbly skin. They were not very good at speaking native languages, as their grammar is not at a very high standard and short, simple sentences. They had a useful teleport device and they were able to take people and replace them with changelings which looked exactly like them, keeping the original in stasis chambers on their home planet, Griffoth. This was done quickly, and the only way of telling that it was changeling would be if you saw them one moment with green glowing eyes. They didn't invade planets like other aliens did, but just made small changes here and there, as they wanted. At one point, one Graske set out stealing people from various different Christmasses. He took them back to Griffoth, and also in chambers were creatures like a Slitheen. The plan was thwarted by the Doctor, returning anyone who had been captured. Another time, a short story, was when the Doctor was composing a piece in hid Tardis called Ode to the Universe, and a Graske landed in the ship. He was asked to leave, but then he warned the Doctor of a portal that had opened in the Tardis, to the Albert Hall. While the Doctor was talking to the many people watching him at the non-fictional Doctor Who Prom, the Graske escaped to the hall, with the Doctor's water pistol. The Doctor was able to get the Graske back and close the portal.

I ran out of ideas, and I was orginally going to write a diary, but anyway. I haven't any more time to make something different, as this took my time up, so enjoy it if you want to. The Red and White Man - Part 1

Christmas Shopping on Christmas Eve had always been a tradition in our family. Of course, we’d bought most of the presents beforehand, but we still liked to go out into the main city, and have a look round at all the festive displays. We sometimes got gifts, and gave them to each other on the night. We felt we needed at least something earlier, otherwise all the presents would be left for the big day, and then we wouldn’t have time to play games and have fun, plus watching out favourite programmes on the television. It seemed today, just like any other year, the shops were very crowded, but at least everyone had a smile on their face, apart from the sad few who take Christmas and throw it in the fire. I’ve always wondered what they do on Christmas. How miserable they must seem, and I doubt they even have a loving family to spend it with. But we’re always massive ‘Chrimbo fans’. We have the whole thing; giant tree (which the kids normally decorate, under parent supervision, of course), large lunch, presents galore, stockings for the children (full with gifts Santa left overnight, and it always seems to keep them occupied until at least 6 o’clock in the morning, thank goodness), loud music, Carols, family round the fire, telling their own stories (actually a bigger hit with the children), charades (well…), and so many other things that it would take years to list. There were choirs singing carols in the streets, many colourful lights up everywhere, just so normal, it was abnormal. But this year, something wasn’t quite right. Where was Santa? I know that might sound a strange question to ask, but… ok, we had everything the same as it is every Christmas, but there were no Santa hats, no Grottos for the children, no Ho Ho Ho-ing. Nothing. Not even the items in the shop windows reflected anything to do with the large man. No sleigh bells were jingling, no ‘Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer’. But had everyone forgotten? One thing was for sure… I remembered. But I never said anything, I just let the family carry on the way it did. What about tomorrow morning though? Will they remember then, when they see the stocking empty? We got home near 9 o’clock, me deep in thought. Our annual showing of the Snowman should surely cheer me up, and oh, that has Santa in. We sat down to watch. I can remember all of it up to the end of their walking in the air, but then… it seemed as if time had past all of a sudden. The time it would have been when the film was finished was showing on the clock, but where had that time gone? Still no questions asked, and even I couldn’t get myself to yell at someone asking what the hell was going on! ‘Well, you two’d better be getting into your beds before S-‘ This time I was pushed forward to them lying in bed, me standing over them, wishing them a good night. No stockings by their beds. What was going on? It was time I found out, but suddenly I heard sleigh bells outside. I developed a wide grin on my face. ‘Can you hear that?’ I asked them. ‘Hear what?’ they replied. I left the room, opened the front door, to see what was going on. There was a red and white, hooded figure standing there. ‘ You have been thinking about a person banned from all eternity… Now you must be ridden from this world, before you destroy it…’

Day 6 - Robotic Christmas Tree

The Monster and Villain Files page, as you probably already know, is at the moment closed for updating. Well, over the past couple of days, I have been working hard producing new files, and almost completely re-writing old ones for the page, and at the moment, there are 15 completed ones. That may not sound like a lot, but it takes ages writing them, and now every single one will be completely in my own words, as when I first wrote them, I was a bit lazy. They also now hve much better and bigger pictures, and clearer text. So, when it opens again, I'm sure you will like it, and at the moment, the opening time for it will probably be in late-December, early-January, but it really depends on how much I work at it in the holidays, amongst Christmas. So, for this day, you can have a sneak preview of one just written, which happens to also be a festive file... a Christmas Tree! Enjoy!

A strange name for a monster, but there was actually a real killer Christmas Tree! We know of two events that occurred with these menaces. The first struck the Tyler flat, located inside the Powell Estate in London, on Christmas Eve 2006. It wrecked havoc trying to get to the Doctor, with the Pilot Fish using a remote control to manage it. But the Doctor had just been through his regeneration cycle, and so was not fully awake. Rose, Jackie and Mickey were all in the apartment at the time. Rose and Jackie were both intrigued to find this new tree in their house, and claimed that they had nothing to do with it. It then started to spin, with three different sections moving in different directions. It played the song 'Jingle Bells' and spun out of control, tearing apart everything in its path, including one of the bedroom's walls (where the Doctor was sleeping). All three of the conscious beings were terrified at the sight of it. Rose whispered in the Doctor's ear, asking for help, and the Doctor awoke suddenly, pointed his sonic screwdriver at the tree, and it exploded. And then, on the same day a year later, the Pilot Fish were back for revenge. They needed to take Donna Noble away for the Empress of the Racnoss, and so invaded her wedding ceremony, that in the end had not gone to plan. This time, they did something a little different with the trees. They used killer baubles, on the trees, that they controlled, and made them explode close to people. Luckily no one was killed, as the Doctor defeated the Pilot Fish using his sonic screwdriver and the building's sound system, to create such a loud sound it disembled them, and parts of them fell to the ground. We have not seen a Christmas Tree of this sort since then.

The first is Song For Ten, and is the original version heard in The Christmas Invasion, sung by Tim Philips. The second is Love Don't Roam, performed by Neil Hannon, heard in The Runaway Bride. And the last is the one you can hear on the main Christmas page of this site, The Stowaway. It is sung by Yamit Mamo, and was heard partially in Voyage of the Damned. Enjoy!

Day 1 - A Chocolate Cake With A Twist...

Well, what a fun way to start the advent calendar off! A Dalek Christmas Chocolate Cake, which you can make! Here's all the instructions and a list of supplies that you will need for your different Christmas pudding! Below you can see the finished product i.e. what your should look like.

What You Will Need

Two 8 inch chocolate sandwich cakes (recipe here)
Two Chocolate swiss rolls
McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes
At least 400g of milk chocolate. (buy more, you can never have too much chocolate)
100g bar of plain chocolate
100g bar of white chocolate (you won’t need the full 100g, but hey..)
Cadbury Flake*
Cadbury Chocolate Fingers*
Cadbury chocolate buttons*
Smarties*
Large box Maltesers

* You will require only a few of each of the above.

Method

Melt the chocolate in a dish over a pan of simmering water (take care kids!)
Cut about 1inch from around one of the chocolate cakes. Try to hold the knife at an angle so that the cake tapers, getting thinner toward the top
Now, stick the smaller cake on to the top of the uncut one. Anticipating a large and heavy cake you can err on the side of caution and used a large dollop of the melted chocolate to sandwich these together.
Cut one of the chocolate swiss rolls in half. Do the same with second swiss roll, and using just one of the halves, cut it in half length ways. Stick these four pieces together using melted chocolate.
Place the swiss rolls on top of the cake using, yes you’ve guessed it, melted chocolate, place a single piece of swiss roll on top of this and then start to cover the entire cake in melted chocolate. If you have the time, do this in layers, allowing one layer of melted chocolate to set before adding the next, and the next… if you don't have the time, pour the entire ½ thick chocolate on in one go. This proves rather frustrating as it continually gloops to the base.
Before the chocolate sets completely (I was slightly insane by this point) start decorating the cake to give it it’s Dalek features.
Place Maltesers in columns on the bottom half of the cake to form the skirt. Do Daleks wear skirts?
Use half a Cadbury Flake and chocolate fingers to make the sticky-out-bits, and put a chocolate button on the ends (using the good ol’ tried ‘n’ tested melted chocolate method)
Stack three Jaffa Cakes on top of the cake, followed by two stacks of three chocolate buttons. Add a Smartie to the top of the buttons.
Place a band of white chocolate squares around the neck. You could of course pipe some melted white chocolate to create a similar effect.
Using melted plain chocolate, pipe details around the Dalek; stripes down the Jaffa cakes, and lines between the Malteser columns etc.
Leave to set in a cool place, then…
Exterminate!… exterminate!…

Christmas Touch

To make the cake just that bit more Christmassy, why not sprinkle some fine sugar on the top of it, to make it look as if there is snow on the Dalek. There are many other things you can do besides this, though.
